HP, URGENT GOOD NEWS - PLEASE READ NOW!

Are you wondering why we write this unusual, urgent note instead of our regular newsletter?  We hope you can give this your immediate attention, as it could tangibly and forever change the life of a brilliantly talented, intelligent, yet impoverished girl.

Ley Ley is her name.  She has an opportunity, and we are doing everything possible to help her seize it. Your support could be the key to unlocking her potential. This is why we are writing to you so urgently.

Ley Ley first walked into our world in 2015 when she came to Movie Night at Heartprint with her two sisters.  We got to know her over time; she had a natural reticence and quiet ways, but her spirit was immense and shone through despite the many challenges facing her as a young girl living in extreme poverty.

About five years ago, Ley was among the first five girls selected for our fledgling Bong Srey program.   Around the same time, before the Covid pandemic, her parents moved to Thailand in an attempt to find work to send money home.  They left Ley Ley and her sisters with their grandmother in Siem Reap.

This ended up being a lousy situation for the girls as the grandmother lived in an area where drug use and, honestly, criminal activities were the norm.  She feared for the girls' safety and sent them to live with two different aunties.

Despite the upheavals, missing her parents, and sometimes wondering what she would have to eat on a given day, Ley Ley never stopped working hard. She never stopped dreaming and never stopped understanding that hard work and education were the way to fulfill her dreams. And she never stopped coming to Heartprint.

Her dream has always been to be involved with interior architecture and design. Now, she has the chance to be accepted to a university in Phnom Penh that offers her the next step to achieving this. And she is doing this not just for herself but, true to her immense spirit, for her family.

In her own words:

“I hope that one day I can work in interior architecture or design and be successful, making me and my family have a better life. I want to show my capabilities and make them proud of me. If I succeed, I hope I set a good example for those around me and make Heartprint proud of me.”

We are already proud of her at Heartprint, but we want to give her the boost she needs to be able to make that move to Phnom Penh, study and create her heart out and go on to create beautiful places for people to live.

The problem now is time. We need to come up with US$5350 by the 15th of November or she will have to put her goals on hold.

If she is to make a firm commitment to a university, she will need to be able to pay the fees, most of which are due very soon.  This is why we urgently need your help with Ley Ley! We are not asking you to donate right now. All we need is for people to pledge their commitment so we know she can move ahead and enroll in the University of her choice.

Can you please share this far and wide and give what you can, as well?

Here is a breakdown of the costs:

Registration Fee US$50

Admin Fee (2 semesters) US$200

Semester One US$1400

Semester Two US$1400

Laptop US$500

Living Expenses US$1800

Think you can help? Reply to this email and pledge your amount today.

Please, please help Ley Ley!

With thanks and love,

Wendy and Garry
