Back to Basics? Yes! And Then Some.

Sometimes, when you’ve been on a long and winding journey, it helps to pause and remember where you started.

For us, it all began with something simple and solid: building houses.

Lately, we’ve been writing to you about so many incredible things—our new Community Centre, the Heartprint Unicorns, and the boys’ first-ever barbershop haircuts. But as we looked back, we realized it had been a while since we told you about a house. About a home.

So here we are—returning to our roots. But we’re bringing along everything we’ve grown into.

Because what once was “basic”—walls and roofs, windows and doors—has blossomed into barbershop visits and book corners, life skills and language classes, friendships, future plans, and first chances.

While we started out building homes - it turns out we have built a wonderful community.

And still, a safe place to live - a real, lasting home - is the foundation under it all.

Meet Houses 126 and 127: A Double Build for Two Sisters

Not long ago, we finished two houses—side by side, for two sisters.

In one: mom, dad, two sons, and a daughter.

In the other: mom, dad, and two sons.

They’d been watching us work in the village. Quietly. Hopefully. And one day, they gathered their courage and asked if we could help them, too.

So, as we always do, our outreach team visited to learn more about their story and needs. They found a family full of strength and love—but also struggle.

One sister had experienced a terrible accident as a baby, falling off a trailer and suffering partial paralysis. Her mobility was limited, and for years, so were her options.

But her spirit? It's not limited at all.

We said yes.

Yes to building not just homes, but a stronger future.

As part of the agreement, the disabled sister joined our community programs.  She’s enrolled in our Build a Future program, learning new hard skills and preparing to join our Adult Interpersonal Skills course—and eventually, our Adult English classes.

She’s building confidence. Dignity. Independence.

And in doing so, she’s lifting her family with her.

This, too, is basic.

Speaking of Basics… It’s Almost Time for Match It May!

Every year around this time, we say it—and we mean it:

Match It May keeps the lights on—and the kids coloring.

It’s not the shiny part of our work. No big announcements, no ribbon-cutting moments.

But it keeps our foundation strong:

• It pays the rent and keeps the lights on.

• Buys the pencils and the crayons.

• Fixes the printer (yes… again).

• Tops up the glue sticks.

• And helps pay our team—the people who make all of this possible.

How You Can Help in Match It May:

Donate in May: One of our generous business partners will match your gift—doubling your impact.

Join the Movement: Your support keeps families housed, kids learning, adults growing, and communities thriving.

Spread the Word: Tell a friend, post online, share your heart. Generosity is contagious.
